This past weekend is without a doubt, one I will never forget. On Sunday, we experienced the “leftover” winds from Hurricane Ike in Texas. I would have never dreamed, what was about to happen. Let’s see if I can take you back in time. There it was…6:00pm in the evening. The winds had been blowing strong all day, very strong as a matter of fact. The large, and I stress LARGE tree on the other side of our patio, had been blowing all day. Mind you, this is the same tree that I asked to be trimmed at the beginning of the summer so I could have more sun in my back yard, which of course, I was told no, because it doesn’t “touch the apartment”. Hah!! Well that was all about to change. At 6:00pm, Angela and I were sitting on the loveseat, and Rich was looking out the sliding door to the patio. All of a sudden we heard a snap, and down towards us comes the HUGE tree. Rich takes off running, yelling for us to “come on”.. Nice man I know, thinking of himself first! Hah. (I have to give him credit, he came right back and apologized, and said “come on” once again). It was cute… anyways. So in a panic, as more trees are cracking and falling down outside, I quickly grab a change of clothes, our tooth brushes, and a clean pair of underwear (just like my mom has always taught me, if nothing else, change your underwear) and out the door we went. I didn’t know at first what was really happening because of the adrenaline running through my system. But then, we decided to go to Rich’s parents, as we had no power and this huge tree was falling on our apartment, taking up our ENTIRE patio and we couldn’t see out. Nonetheless, on the drive over there, all we saw were down trees and power lines everywhere we looked. Thankfully, his parent’s still had power. So we tried to patiently wait there, until coming back here to check on the apartment around 10pm. We brought our flashlights, and thankfully, no more damage…
Needless to say, we headed to my mom’s to spend the night as we had no power, and didn’t know what was going to happen with this tree on the WHOLE place. We woke up at the crack of dawn and came back to start cleaning up- it took the tree company over 7 hours to get it cleaned up!! It was a disaster… I don’t know what I am more upset about, my ruined landscaping, or that we had to spend the day cleaning up….
Here are a few pictures of it…
Sunday- the drive way to leave….
